New Intransa VideoAppliances Cut Cost and Eliminate Complexity for Simple, High Performance Surveillance

Preloaded with Exacq, Genetec, JDS, Milestone or OnSSI VMS Solutions

SAN JOSE, California June 15, 2009

Intransa, the leader in simple, green video data management and retention, today introduced the newest members of its ground-breaking, installer-ready VideoAppliance family - the VA100 and VA200. As a member of the National Retail Federation, Intransa's VA100 and VA200 video surveillance-optimized appliances are targeted at retail and other demanding security environments. The products will be unveiled at the National Retail Federation's (NRF) Loss Prevention Conference, held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, June 15-17, 2009.

Intransa VideoAppliances are the first application-specific platforms to preload and host video management software from all five of the leading IP surveillance vendors, representing the majority of open VMS software used in the security industry. Each Intransa appliance hosts the customer's choice of VMS application, and delivers advanced, high performance recording and playback capacity. The appliances replace commodity servers and hardware for simplicity, cost reduction, improved reliability and energy savings.

Intransa VideoAppliances are simple to install and operate, without the complexity and ongoing support challenges of commodity hardware. Intransa's patented video optimization technology for surveillance requirements delivers lower costs, superior performance, and eliminates the risk of lost video.

For a new IP surveillance deployment, such as retail stores, installers set-up standard or megapixel IP cameras throughout the location as required and plug an Intransa VideoAppliance VA100 or VA200 into the camera network. Ready to go out of the box, the installer enters basic system information and the user license key for the selected video management software into the appliance before recording. There is no need to size, acquire, install, configure, test and integrate commodity servers and storage with the VMS system.

For existing CCTV environments a VA100 or VA200 can add the power of IP while extending the life and usefulness of DVRs. Intransa VideoAppliances can be used to increase DVR video retention capacity supporting maximum resolution and frame rate from attached analog cameras, while eliminating the risk of lost video that can plague CCTV. A retail store could continue to leverage existing DVR and analog cameras. However, by installing an Intransa VideoAppliance to upgrade the DVR's recording capacity, reliability and video quality, the retail store would be able to add new IP megapixel cameras to better monitor public areas, parking lots and cash registers.

Reducing Installation, Support Challenge and Surveillance Cost with Intransa VideoAppliance Intransa's VideoAppliance VA100 and VA200 systems come preloaded with the customer's choice of industry-leading video management software. Users may select Exacq Technologies exacqVision, Genetec Omnicast, JDS Digital Security Systems Softsite32, Milestone Systems XProtect, or On-Net Surveillance Systems, Inc. (OnSSI) NetDVMS.

“The Intransa VideoAppliance introduction is a major step toward simplicity in the delivery of best-in-breed IP surveillance based on our open platform XProtect video management software,” said Eric Fullerton, chief sales and marketing officer for Milestone. “This is a great option for customers and integrators to consider and reduces support and integration challenges while resulting in lower total cost of deployment.”

To leverage the power and capabilities of IP surveillance, security practitioners have been faced with significant costs, in addition to design, installation, integration and ongoing support challenges. Instead of the relative simplicity of installing a DVR for analog surveillance, security departments face ongoing complexity and the challenge of sizing, purchasing, and configuring commodity-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware to work optimally with video management software. Such general purpose hardware is designed primarily for standard IT applications, such as databases and email, and is not video optimized.

“Intransa's VideoAppliance contributes to a more efficient implementation process by removing the commodity hardware and storage integration hassle for resource-strapped integrators, and bringing them the power of the OnSSI software suite at the same time,” said Jeff Knapp, vice president of marketing for www.onssi.com, from the company's headquarters in Pearl River, NY. “OnSSI is excited to offer another great option for our customers.”

Intransa VideoAppliance VA100 and VA200 eliminate the risk of improperly sizing and configuring commodity hardware, and ensure maximum performance and availability in the demanding, non-stop recording and 7x24x365 world of surveillance. Intransa's patented video optimization technology delivers superior performance with the advantages of built-in, non-fragmenting recording and playback capacity in both the VA100 and VA200.

“Partnering with Intransa reinforces our efforts to continually expand our list of supported hardware and reaffirms our leading position as an open platform solutions provider,” said Guy Chenard, Vice President Global Sales & Business Development for Genetec. “I believe that the Intransa VideoAppliance will meet the growing needs of our customers and sales partners, simplifying installation and ongoing operations while delivering advanced capabilities in small- to medium-sized installations. This new, simple appliance family is a valuable addition to our solution portfolio worldwide. ”

Best of all, Intransa VideoAppliance systems are simple to install and operate. With a process that is more comparable to installing a CCTV DVR than a typical IP deployment, security practitioners gain all the power of the latest digital technology without the installation challenges and support headaches.

“The concept of a simple appliance that brings the power of exacqVision pre-installed is a good one for our customers to consider,” said Thomas Buckley, director of sales and marketing for Exacq Technologies. “For those who don't have the resources or the time to build their own solutions with commodity hardware, the Intransa VideoAppliance is a great solution.”

A truly green surveillance choice, the Intransa VideoAppliance family shrinks energy consumption, heating and cooling, and the amount of required equipment and rack space consumed. A single VA100 or VA200 in just one rack space unit (1.7" high, 19" wide) provides recording and playback capacity while simultaneously hosting the VMS application. This eliminates commodity servers and storage systems, and delivers a higher performing, more reliable and easily expandable solution.

“The option to choose from a variety of simple, reliable and high performance appliances is sure to benefit our customers,” said Joe Marchese, president of JDS Digital Security Systems. “Without the complexity of specifying, purchasing and configuring commodity server and storage hardware and then integrating it with Softsite32 in a working surveillance solution, security departments and integrators can concentrate on running their surveillance system and not be concerned with the underlying hardware and ongoing support.”

Intransa VideoAppliance Features

Built in hot-swap recording capacity with enterprise-grade components ensures non-stop recording, while advanced RAID protection eliminates the risk of lost video. For maximum uptime, the VA200 goes even further, with fully redundant, hot-swap power supplies and fans for fault resilient operation for the most demanding environments.

Each VA100 and VA200 appliance comes equipped with 2 or 4 terabytes (TB) of video retention for a few days to a month or more of recording capacity, depending upon actual configuration, number of IP cameras and other settings. A modular VA expander can be added to increase recording capacity by another 6 or 12TB in just 2U of rack space (3.5" high by 19" wide) without halting operation.

Both Intransa VideoAppliances offer outstanding performance in support of IP cameras and when used as a CCTV upgrade, for DVRs as well. The VA100 delivers 750 FPS at 4CIF with MJPEG or 1,500 FPS at 4CIF with MPEG4. The VA200 offers 900 FPS at 4CIF with MJPEG or 1,800 FPS at 4CIF with MPEG4. Performance may vary based upon actual configuration, VMS selection, and camera types.

Intransa VideoAppliance VA10, VA20 and VA30 platforms can also be deployed in conjunction with the new VA100 and VA200 as well as in their traditional use with external Intransa Video and Data Management & Retention (VDMR) platforms, scaling from 2 to 1,500TB of video recording/playback capacity. Each VA10, VA20 or VA30 can host another licensed copy of the VMS system, adding additional camera support very affordably and further reducing the need for commodity servers and hardware while leveraging the recording capacity of the VA100 and VA200. They can also be used for other related purposes, such as directory servers.

Each member of the Intransa VideoAppliance family is available with Microsoft Windows Vista® Business, and many models have an optional upgrade available to Microsoft Windows Server 2003. This standard Microsoft operating system environment allows adherence to the corporate network and cyber security standards and support models common in larger organizations.

All Intransa VideoAppliances include a full, three year hardware warranty plus a year of software updates and enhancements, for worry free operation.
